Machynlleth sits to the north of a very special part of the world. Bounded by the A470, A487 and A44, this northern end of the Cambrian Mountains is one of the most sparsely populated parts of the UK. Mining, farming and water supplies have made their marks on the edges, but head to the centre of the rhombus and you'll find a scene little changed in hundreds of years.
Best of all, there's some great trails up here! Often wet, the recent dry spell encouraged me to jump on the cyclocross and get to know there area better. And it's huge! Peaceful, empty and stunning.
If you like your trails fast and your skies open, this perfect gravel/XC terrain will be just up your street.
